SIYB
Launches The New IYB People And Productivity Manual
The ILO-SIYB Regional Project recently
launched the new seventh manual under the Improve Your Business
package called ‘People and Productivity’. This manual
assists entrepreneurs to consider the human factor for them
to increase their business productivity and profitability. Again,
this addition to the IYB family has come in response to feedback
from the entrepreneurs for a tool that will assist them to deal
with staff and productivity issues in the business. No business
can operate without people. Success in the business depends
not only on the business owner. The new People and Productivity
manual helps businesses to make effective use of their staff
by considering them seriously and organising the human factor
in the business well, thereby enhancing business profits.
The Chapters covered in the manual are;
Chapter 1: Linking People (staff) With Productivity
Chapter 2: Influencing productivity
Chapter 3: Recruiting Productive People
Chapter 4: Encouraging Staff Productivity
Chapter 5: A Safe and Productive Workplace
Chapter 6: Troubled Employees
Chapter 7: Business Relations and Productivity
This manual has already been introduced to the
Master Trainers in the recently held Training of Master Trainers
seminar and the Regional Master Trainers seminar. However,
further Master Trainer were selected from each project country
and were and are being trained more intensively over 2 days
in the technical details of the manual. The People and Productivity
manual is a bit different from other IYB manuals in that it
requires substantial knowledge of the country labour legislation,
health and safety policies and productivity issues. It is
not a general subject area but is technically demanding which
challenges the IYB trainers to research and, more preferably,
to invite specialist guest presenters in the country to deliver
some of the legislation related sessions.
The Master Trainers trained in the project countries
developed action plans for the introduction workshops and
refresher training back in their countries, which involved
the rest of the Master Trainers and SIYB Trainers. These trainers
have already begun training entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe, Zambia,
Uganda and Tanzania. More TOEs are expected before the end
of the year. In addition to the manual, there is an very exciting
IYB People and Productivity video that trainers also use during
training, showing good and bad practices in managing human
resources in the business.
The introduction of the manual in the
countries has also necessitated co-facilitation with experts
from labour ministries, health and safety boards and the Master
Trainers. These seminars have already been conducted in Zambia,
Zimbabwe, Uganda and Tanzania while Mozambique is still awaiting
the translated version of the manual before training activities
begin.
